Hominids:
Archaeology:Acheulean Middle Stone Age (MSA)/Mousterian
Important specimens: Early discoveries of primitive tools with extinct animals.
Notes: The dates on these Pleistocene terraces of the Somme/L'Avre River are broad. Lower units extend deep into the early Pleistocene, but the majority of the material is from higher in the section, and the dates in this DB reflect that fact.
Location: Amiens (nappe de Freville; nappe de la Garenne; nappe de l'Epinette; Saint-Acheul; Cagny-Cimetiere; Cagny-la Garenne 1; Cagny-la Garenne 2; Cagny-Ferme de l'Epinette; Cagny-l'Epinett ), France
Map location/coordinates reference: Coordinates are in the center of the complex of archeology sites at Saint Acheul (now community gardens). Other sites occur slightly upstream on L'Avre River south terraces. Map in: Tuffreau, A., Lamotte, A., & Marcy, J. L. (1997). Land-use and site function in Acheulean complexes of the Somme Valley. World archaeology, 225-241.
