Important specimens: Oldest figurine known. Red ochre found on figurine. Some refer to this as the earliest art or symbol (symbolic behavior). from Wikipedia: 'The Venus of Tan-Tan is an alleged artifact found in Morocco. It is 6 centimeters long quartzite rock, and has been interpreted as a depiction of the human form, gender indeterminate and faceless, dated between 300,000 and 500,000 years ago. It was discovered in 1999, during an archaeological survey by Lutz Fiedler, in a river terrace deposit on the north bank of the Draa River a few kilometers south of the Moroccan town of Tan-Tan.'
Notes: No good date, but the specimen is from Middle Pleistocene sediments.
Location: Draa River north of town of Tan Tan (incorrect location decribed by Bednarik, 2003), Morocco

The Draa River is NORTH of the town of Tan Tan, and the road sections from which the specimen derives are obvious on the map.
